Celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), 14 November 2011, Konzerthaus located on the Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin
14 November 1961 was the date on which Walter Scheel, Germany’s first ever Minister for Economic Cooperation was sworn into office. Fifty years to the day exactly, the celebrations marking this anniversary bridge the gap between the past and the future, showcasing the changes the Ministry has undergone over the course of time and highlighting the challenges that lie ahead for development cooperation. Besides Germany’s Federal President, some 1,200 leading national and international guests from the fields of politics, business, science and civil society have been invited to this event, which also marks the highlight of BMZ’s campaign ‘50 Years of BMZ.
