After seven-year-old Sahand’s mother is killed by a bomb, his father sends him to his grandparents’ village where he hopes the calm and natural beauty will help him come to terms with his traumatic experience. But Sahand runs away – in search of his mother’s memory.

This film by the Iranian director Mohammed Ali Talebi and winner of this year’s ‘Cinema fairbindet’ at the Berlinale has been hailed ‘a masterpiece’ by the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper. 2011 is the first time the award has been presented by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Winning this award opens up a host of great opportunities for this film which will be screened in more than 20 German cities as part of a film road show. Whatever you do, don’t miss it!
